Hey, Hanks here.
Let’s be real — nobody likes feeling trapped in a subscription.
Last month, I spent a full week diving into Macaron’s billing flows on both iOS and Android. I tested every tap, every edge case, and even the little quirks that could trip you up. What I found surprised me — and it probably will you too. From canceling mid-cycle to understanding the harsh reality of how your “almonds” reset, I documented it all.
By the end of this guide, you’ll know exactly how to cancel or downgrade your plan without losing your hard-earned data, and how to trigger a refund if you change your mind.
If you subscribed through the iPhone or iPad app, Apple handles the entire payment process.
Your subscription charges through your Apple ID — the same account tied to your iCloud and App Store. Charges appear on your Apple statement (not directly from Macaron), and the subscription auto-renews 24 hours before your period ends unless you manually cancel.
We offer two paid plans on iOS:
One thing that surprised some users during our testing: if you cancel mid-cycle, you keep full access until the period ends. Apple doesn't automatically prorate refunds unless you request one separately through their system.

On Android, Google Play manages your subscription.
Payments charge to whatever payment method is linked to your Google account — credit card, debit, or Google Pay. Same auto-renewal logic as iOS: unless you cancel 24+ hours before renewal, the subscription continues.
Plans are identical:
Monthly or annual billing. Annual is cheaper.
The main difference I noticed during testing: Google Play's subscription interface is slightly more buried than Apple's. You have to navigate through "Payments & Subscriptions" (not just "Subscriptions"), which caused confusion for some of our test users.
Your billing date is tied to the day you first subscribed.
Example: If you signed up on January 15, 2026, you'll be charged on the 15th of every month (or annually on January 15, 2027).
New users are charged immediately when they subscribe — there's no grace period. If you're on a free trial (we occasionally run these), the charge hits when the trial period ends.
Almonds don't roll over. This was one of the first things we tested internally. If you have 40 almonds left at the end of your billing cycle, they reset when the new cycle starts. It's a use-it-or-lose-it system.
Auto-renewal is enabled by default on both platforms. You'll receive an email from Apple or Google a day or two before renewal, but these notifications can be easy to miss.
This is the fastest method we've verified:
The subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period. If you're on a monthly plan and cancel on January 10, you keep access until February 10.
Alternatively, you can cancel through the App Store:
Same result — access continues until the period ends.
During our testing on January 12, 2026, both methods worked identically. The Settings route is slightly faster because you skip the App Store's loading screens.

After canceling, check your email. Apple sends a confirmation within a few minutes.
To verify the cancellation worked:
If it still says "Renews on [date]," the cancellation didn't process. Try again.
When the period ends, Macaron automatically downgrades you to our free tier. Your data stays intact — mini-apps, preferences, conversation history — but you lose unlimited almonds and Pro-only features like unlimited voice calls.
One edge case we documented: if you cancel during a free trial, access may end immediately rather than at the trial's end. This happened on several test accounts. Apple's subscription management documentation confirms this is standard behavior for trial cancellations.
This is the primary cancellation method:
Same as iOS — you keep access until the billing cycle ends.
Our Android app includes a shortcut:
This redirects you to Google Play's subscription page. It's slightly faster than going through the Play Store manually, but both paths lead to the same place.
Google sends a confirmation email after cancellation. Check your Subscriptions list in Google Play to verify the status shows "Ends on [date]."
We tested this on a Pixel 8 running Android 15 in January 2026. The flow worked consistently, though the in-app shortcut didn't appear on every test account — it seems to depend on app version or specific account settings. When in doubt, use Google Play directly.
Canceling your subscription doesn't delete your account. You automatically downgrade to Macaron's free tier.
What you keep:
What you lose:
We ran this scenario on multiple test accounts in early January. After the billing period ended, all saved mini-apps remained accessible. The only limitation was creating new ones beyond the free almond allocation.

Macaron uses what we call "Deep Memory" — a reinforcement learning system that personalizes the experience based on your usage patterns.
When you downgrade or cancel, your data doesn't disappear. Everything stays in your account:
If you re-subscribe later, it's seamless — like you never left.
The only exception: if you delete your account entirely (not just cancel the subscription), we permanently remove all your data. This is outlined in our privacy practices and complies with GDPR and CCPA requirements as of January 2026.
One question we tested: Does downgrading affect personalization quality? Based on our 2-week testing period, we couldn't measure any degradation. The AI continued remembering user preferences and context. The only limitation was almond-based feature access.
We built Macaron so that everyone can experience the power of a personal AI agent without any commitment. Even on the free tier, you get full access to core AI features, limited almonds to explore mini-apps, and all your conversation history safely stored. Sign up today and start creating — no credit card required. You can upgrade anytime if you decide to unlock more almonds and Pro features, but there’s no pressure. Your journey with Macaron begins the moment you register.
We offer a 7-day no-questions-asked refund for all subscriptions.
You're eligible if:
Not eligible:
For accidental purchases or technical issues, you can request refunds outside the 7-day window, but approval depends on Apple or Google's policies rather than ours.
On iOS:
Apple reviews within 48 hours. During our testing on January 10, 2026, test refund requests were approved in 36 hours.
On Android:
Google typically processes within 2-5 business days. Our test requests received responses in 3 days.
Directly from Macaron:
If you're outside the 7-day window or experiencing issues with Apple/Google's refund systems, contact our support team. You can reach us through the app under Settings > Help & Support.

Q: What is Macaron App? A: Macaron is a personal AI agent that creates customized mini-apps for life tasks — travel planning, fitness tracking, meal prep, hobby projects. It uses deep memory to personalize based on your preferences and history. Think of it as a workflow builder that adapts to how you work.
Q: How do I sign up? A: Download the app (iOS or Android), then sign up using Google, Apple ID, or email verification. Takes about 30 seconds. You can learn more at macaron.im.
Q: What are almonds? A: Almonds are Macaron's credit system for generating and using mini-apps. Free tier gives you limited almonds. Classic Plan: 60/month. Sweet Plan: 350/month. Each mini-app creation or advanced feature costs almonds.
Q: Can I switch plans? A: Yes. Upgrade or downgrade through the app's subscription settings or your platform's store (Apple/Google). Changes take effect at your next billing cycle — not immediately.
Q: What happens if I cancel mid-cycle? A: You keep full access until the end of your current billing period. After that, you automatically downgrade to free. Your data and mini-apps stay in your account.
Q: Is my data private? A: Yes. We use a privacy-first architecture. Your data isn't shared without consent, and we comply with GDPR and CCPA as of January 2026.
Q: How do I get more almonds without subscribing? A: You can't. Free tier has a fixed almond limit. To get more, you need to upgrade to Classic or Sweet.
Q: Is upgrading worth it? A: If you're using Macaron daily or building multiple mini-apps, absolutely. If you're casual (a few times a week), free tier might be enough. We've seen users upgrade after hitting the free limit three times in one week.
Q: How do I contact support? A: In-app: Settings > Help & Support. You can also visit macaron.im for additional resources.
After testing all these scenarios, here's what we typically suggest to users:
If you're not sure whether you need a paid plan, start with Classic monthly. Test it for a month. If you hit the almond limit regularly, upgrade to Sweet. If you don't, you can stay on Classic or downgrade to free.
The 7-day refund window is real and straightforward. Use it if you're testing the app and aren't sure yet.
And if you're worried about forgetting to cancel before an unwanted renewal, set a calendar reminder 3 days before your renewal date. Most of our support requests about unwanted charges come from people who simply forgot their renewal date was coming up.
We built Macaron to be flexible. Use what works for you, and don't worry — canceling or downgrading is always just a few taps away.
