For an English-speaking beginner studying Spanish, separate three goals: completing course exercises, recovering a phrase without help, and handling an unexpected reply. Duolingo provides a route for practice, but a streak measures return visits rather than all three abilities. This review does not assign a universal fluency ceiling or a time-to-fluency result.
Public website check. Duolingo's public Practice tab article describes choosing a skill to practice instead of only following the main lesson path. The anonymous Get Started route opened course selection; no completed lesson or learning result was captured.

Two questions we actually answered in the free lesson
In an anonymous browser session, the AI agent chose Spanish, selected the beginner route and entered the first lesson. For ‘Which one of these is “cat”?’ it selected gato from three pictured answers and pressed CHECK. The answer turned green and the lesson showed ‘Awesome!’. After CONTINUE, the next image-choice question asked for ‘dog’; selecting perro and checking it showed ‘Amazing!’ and ‘2 IN A ROW’. Five hearts remained visible during these two checks. These are observed interface responses, not a claim that a person learned or remembered the words.

What this limited use tells us: the first two tasks offered recognition with pictured choices and immediate correctness feedback. That makes the opening action clear and easy to repeat, but it does not test recalling gato or perro without choices, understanding speech, forming a sentence, or holding a conversation. The lesson was not completed and no account, microphone, paid Max feature or longer-term learning result was tested. If fluency is your goal, add an unaided recall and speaking check after using the course; do not treat this two-question result as proficiency evidence.
