Choose spaced repetition software that passes your essential study workflow and preserves an acceptable way out. Anki suits detailed control; Quizlet may suit quick shared sets; RemNote connects notes with cards; Mochi offers a Markdown workspace. Start with two plausible candidates and the Ten-Card Transfer Test before moving your library.
This is a documentation-based comparison, not a hands-on review. The fits below are starting hypotheses for SRS software. For broader discovery, use the flashcard app guide.

The three diagrams in this article are conceptual illustrations. Their controls and results do not depict tested products.
A compact fact needs a checkable answer. Vocabulary may need prompts in both directions; formulas need readable notation; image labels need sufficient detail; audio needs playback. Context-rich material may require its original explanation beside the card. Choose which of these you actually use before comparing brands.

For review rhythm and workload, follow the spaced repetition method. Here, the question is whether the software keeps your chosen prompts and their context usable.
Anki's note types and templates suit reusable structures. Quizlet's term-definition sets may fit straightforward vocabulary. RemNote creates cards within notes, while Mochi uses Markdown and templates. Compare correction effort alongside creation effort: change an answer, locate related cards, and check whether a shared template updates what you intended.
Try batch editing and tagging if your collection needs them; do not assume every client supports the same operations. Generated cards still need source and answer checks. A fast import has little value if fixing one recurring error becomes difficult.
Compare visible due work, rating choices, new-card limits, and what pausing or postponing actually changes. Anki documents extensive controls; the Anki setup guide handles configuration. RemNote documents scheduler options. Mochi documents a default algorithm and optional FSRS, both using remembered/forgot grading.
Quizlet's regional feature pages describe different experiences. Its UK page specifies automatic activation for sets with 100-plus terms and says the feature is not yet in mobile apps. Availability for your account remains Not clearly disclosed until confirmed; use the Quizlet review guide for operation. A scheduler estimate is not a knowledge guarantee.
Anki and Quizlet organize study around decks or sets; RemNote and Mochi connect cards more directly with notes. Check whether an explanation remains reachable without revealing the answer prematurely. For a spaced repetition flashcard app, supporting media only matters if it survives your everyday workflow.
Try a formula, image, audio clip or reverse prompt only when relevant. Inspect both the review view and export: readable content on screen does not establish that the same structure travels with it.
When comparing spaced repetition apps, name the exact computer, phone and client you will use. Anki offers desktop software and separate mobile clients; AnkiWeb provides optional sync. Quizlet documents offline Flashcards and Match in its iOS/Android apps, which does not establish offline access to its newer scheduling experience.
RemNote's offline guide distinguishes desktop storage of images/PDFs from incomplete mobile/web media caching. Its browser session cannot be restarted offline. Mochi documents local-first storage and unlimited offline use, with cross-device sync in Pro.
These behaviors are documented, not tested here. Check opening, reviewing, editing media and reconnecting separately. Confirm the edited answer and review progress arrive on the second device; stop if copies disagree instead of forcing an overwrite.
Separate content, media, templates, tags, scheduling history and account deletion. Exporting text answers only one of those questions.
The Anki export guide documents deck-package options for scheduling information, presets and media. Collection packages include scheduling, with optional media. Inspect the selected options before treating a file as a backup.
Under Quizlet export rules, creators can export their own terms and definitions on the website. Copied sets cannot be exported; image export is unavailable. Review-history export is Not clearly disclosed there.
RemNote's export documentation says its Complete format excludes image/PDF files. Mochi's export documentation distinguishes native files containing attachments and review history from Markdown/CSV formats that omit history and other metadata. Test the intended import target; a download alone does not prove a usable exit. Check each provider's privacy and deletion terms separately.
Use RemNote pricing and Mochi plan details to identify payment triggers. RemNote lists Free, Pro and Pro with AI; Mochi lists Free and Pro. Quizlet's subscription help distinguishes Plus from Plus Unlimited. Record the actual checkout total and billing period before subscribing.
For RemNote, Free lists three annotated PDFs and five image-occlusion cards; detailed tables describe the latter as five images. Verify the counted unit if that limit matters. A free plan is sufficient only when the required workflow fits inside it.
Use the Ten-Card Transfer Test to find a candidate that preserves your essential daily work and exit path:

Missing media, unexplained history loss or conflicting copies mean stop and investigate. Quizlet's documented 100-term activation threshold means ten cards may not expose its scheduler; leave that requirement Unclear. Done means every must-have passes and the exit path is understood, not merely that import finished.
For each row, select Must, Prefer or Not needed, then record Pass, Unclear or Fail for each candidate with a short evidence note. Do not calculate a total: an unclear or failed Must blocks migration.

Use W3C keyboard guidance as a baseline for keyboard operation, with its path-dependent-input exception. It does not certify these products.
Hypothetical decision: A language learner needs bidirectional text cards, offline phone reviews and a clean export including history; note integration and publishing are optional. They try the same ten authorized cards in two candidates, including flight-mode review and export inspection. One handles offline review but leaves history export unclear; the other documents export but makes phone editing unacceptable. Mark the first Unclear on exit and the second Fail on editing. Move neither library: ask about history export and retest the second only if desktop editing is acceptable. These imagined results establish no product's behavior; actual client and plan remain to be checked.
A shared bill does not establish separate queues. Before joining, verify individual accounts, independent histories, and who retains or can transfer decks when someone leaves. Ask the named provider where its documentation is unclear.
Check the provider's accepted verification methods before budgeting for a discount. Ask whether alternative enrollment proof is accepted and whether your plan and purchase channel qualify; student status alone does not establish eligibility.
Check the provider's current terms, privacy notice, regional consent requirements and parent or school account path. There is no universal age across these services. Resolve eligibility before uploading a learner's material.
Feature access does not grant content rights. Check platform terms alongside licenses for text, images and audio. Verify the intended audience and commercial use separately before distributing the deck.
End-to-end accessibility is Not clearly disclosed for every candidate/client combination. Test creating, editing, revealing, rating, queue navigation and exporting with your actual keyboard and screen reader. Report the blocked step to support; shortcuts alone are insufficient evidence.
Build the ten-card deck and run it through two candidates. Keep your current system until one spaced repetition software option passes every must-have and provides an exit you understand.
