Track the passage, not only the streak
Use guided lessons for course structure and note feedback; use a practice log for the passage you want to revisit. A completed session can still leave a technical question unresolved, so keep that question separate from minutes practiced.
Sample request
"Build a piano-practice history with dated session ID, piece, passage, tempo in BPM, warm-up minutes, focused-practice minutes, play-through minutes, difficult measure and next focus, summing known nonnegative durations without merging different tempos or calling a completed session mastery."
Suggested fields: Piece; passage; tempo; minutes; difficult measure; next focus.
Proposed checks with fictional data:
| Fictional input or edit | Expected result to check | If it differs |
|---|
| Warm-up 3, focused work 12, play-through 5 minutes | Session total 20 minutes, with the difficult measure retained | Check duration units and the three source fields |
| Repeat the passage at 60 then 80 BPM in separate sessions | Both attempts and tempos remain visible | Do not overwrite the slower attempt |
| Enter a negative practice duration | Reject it or request correction | Do not allow negative time to reduce the total |
Illustrative adult-beginner session: use twenty minutes for a short warm-up, one difficult passage and a slow run-through.
If the same measure fails during both the twelve-minute practice block and the slow run-through, make that measure the next focus. Total minutes are useful for planning, but the unresolved passage is what distinguishes this session from twenty minutes of undirected repetition.
